Willard ‘Willie’ Wutschke 1939-2021

Willard “Willie” Wutschke, age 82 of Hastings, died suddenly at home on Thursday morning, May 27, 2021.

Willard Max, the son of Marvin and Dorothy (Landt) Wutschke, was born on April 1, 1939, on the family farm in rural Medford. Willie attended Medford High School where he played football and basketball prior to graduating with the class of 1957. In 1975, Willie moved to Hastings and began his longtime career as a carpenter, and on June 4, 1986, was united in marriage to Charlene “Char” Loesch Iverson. He was a perfectionist in all of his work, and always made sure there wasn’t a detail missed. His union career took him to Mortenson Construction and Graus Construction, which provided him the opportunity to work in every public school in Hastings as well as many major projects in the area. The highlight of his career that he enjoyed the most was working as a finish carpenter at Regina Hospital. With his dedication, Willie also designed and built his own home to ensure all details were covered.

Outside of work, Willie enjoyed bowling, golfing, and trying his luck at the slot machines. He was a great self-taught cook, and enjoyed working in the kitchen. He will forever be remembered for wearing his two-pocketed plaid shirts wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothea Byer; sister-in-law, Diane Radke; and by his mother and father-in-law, Theresa (Fritz) Loesch.

Willie is survived by his wife, Char; children, Allen (Sherie) Wutschke, Shirley (Bill) Sauber, Linda Heiman (Steve Lehtola), Jody Iverson, and John (Kate) Wutschke; grandchildren, Matt Wutschke, Katie Wutschke, Laura (Anthony) Zimmer, Kelly (Ben) Hrncir, Dan (Amanda) Sauber, Natasha (Will) Hill, Beau (Morgan) Heiman, Dylan (Michelle) Heiman, Kyla Wutschke, Tia Wutschke, Tova Wutschke, Anna Wallace, Jacob Wallace, and Natasha Lehtola; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Lamar (Janet) Wutschke; sister and brother-in-law, Donna (Dick) Rother, Bruce (Brandy) Loesch, and Jack Radke; former wife, Sharon; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Pastor Jim Bzoskie officiating. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
