Everywhere a sign
If you don’t yet know who you’re going to vote for, take a drive through the area and check out the yard signs.
I’m just kidding. I have never in my fiveplus decades on God’s Green Earth seen so many election signs littering the countryside. Biden, Trump, Democrat candidate A, Republican candidate B. I’d hate to have my home for sale right now, because people are tuning out to avoid the eyesore.
What I find most amusing is people who think that those yard signs are really enlisting votes. For the most part, I believe, they’re in place generally to bother a neighbor that the sign-owner is pretty sure votes the other way. You really know that’s the case when they’re situated near the lot line.
At this point in the presidential election, I don’t really know that there is going to be a winner. It takes a unique person to jump into national politics, and we certainly do have two unique candidates. Regardless of the fact that I have to vote for one of them – I’d never completely throw away my vote on one of the little-known parties – there’s not a good choice.
Donald Trump has perhaps picked one too many fights with the national media, and I will admit that he doesn’t get a fair shake. He does do some incredibly stupid things, however. If you listen to the right, however, Joe Biden’s biggest problem is his son, and attacking family just doesn’t resonate with the voters, unless there’s actual proof tying the former vice president to anything.
Maybe if I’m not quite sure yet who I’m going to vote for I should just take a peaceful drive in the country and look at the enormous signs that some farmers have erected. Even more amazing is what happened in one nearby community. A business owner was angry when a billboard promoting Biden was put up along the highway near his property. The sign was attacking Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. This business owner enlisted support on social media and raised enough money to buy 10 billboards supporting Trump and downplaying COVID.
What a fantastic waste of money that could have been put to good use in the community.
Oh well, I guess that’s how national politics works in America right now. Big money is thrown down the sewer. On Nov. 4, hopefully we will know who wins, and hopefully we, as a nation, can react with some civility.
Life will indeed go on. I haven’t voted for everyone who has won an election, and I’ve somehow been able to manage in America. I hope everyone else can, too. And if my neighbors act up, I’m going to start putting signs in my yard….real close to the lot line so they get the message.
