Mary Lou Conzemius (Breyer), age 81, of Hastings, MN passed away peacefully on Sept. 1, 2024.
Mary Lou, daughter of Matthew and Harriet (Warner) Breyer was born in Hastings, MN on Jan. 29, 1943. She attended Hastings schools until she moved to a Catholic High School.
A proud graduate of Villa Maria Academy, Frontenac Mn, in 1961, Mary Lou Continued living her Catholic faith in various ways. She volunteered as a religious education teacher for nearly a decade with St. Boniface Parish and then became a Eucharistic Minister. She continued serving her community and church for a majority of her life.
In 1964, at a city Valentine’s Day dance, she met the love of her life, Vernon Conzemius. Vernon pursued her, swept her off her feet and they were married at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings on November 21, 1964. They were married 59 years before Vernon’s passing on December 18, 2023. They were blessed with 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many happy memories over the years.
Mary Lou was a woman of many interests and talents. She loved nature and spent many hours gardening and working outside. Crafting, creating, flowers, wildlife and animals were all her passion. As a member of the Red Hats Society, she loved to socialize and travel with the girls. The penny slots at Treasure Island and Las Vegas were known to call to her at times.
Mary Lou’s kind heart, love for animals and nature and her analytical mind will be missed by many. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hastings Senior Health and Living Community and Grace Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathew and Harriet; her brother, David; and husband, Vernon.
Mary Lou is survived by daughters, Lori Conzemius and Anita (Todd) Schneider; grandchildren, Jessie Jesinski, Mitchell Watkins and Elizabeth Schneider; great grandchildren, Jala and Kali; and sister, Carolyn Breyer.
A celebration of Mary Lou’s remarkable life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Internment will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery in Hastings, MN.
