Marilyn, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, you are home. We pray you may rest in the arms of our Saviour for eternity.
Marilyn Shirley, the daughter of Georgeand Alvina (Peine) Burr, was born on May 31, 1931, at the family farm in rural Hampton. She graduated fourth in her class at Hastings High School in 1949. Marilyn was joined in Holy Matrimony to William Schommer on June 2, 1951, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. They were blessed with five children, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and seventy wonderful years of marriage. Following her graduation, Marilyn worked at Anchor Paper in St. Paul. She was also the secretary at Guardian Angels for many years, but her favorite job was teaching Title One at St. Boniface Catholic School. She excelled at this vocation because she was truly a teacher at heart, patient and kind as she understood each child was able to learn but they all might learn differently. Marilyn was truly an integral part of many student’s achievements.
Marilyn was tremendously devoted to her family and all of her loved ones can share stories of her wisdom
