A 28-year-old Kenyon man was formally charged Sept. 9 and ordered detained in the Dakota County Jail after an accident Sept. 6 in Randolph that claimed the lives of two people from Apple Valley.
Seth John Nechville, 28, was charged with two counts of felony criminal vehicular homicide (negligence under the influence of alcohol) and gross misdemeanor 2nd degree driving while impaired (under the influence of alcohol) with aggravating factors, as he has previous driving while intoxicated convictions in 2019 and 2023.
Nechville was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane of Hwy. 56 when his Ram pickup truck collided head-on with an SUV shortly after 11 a.m.
“When officers arrived, they observed an SUV on fire with catastrophic front-end damage, and a Dodge Ram pickup truck with front end damage. The Ram was facing northbound in the southbound lane of traffic,” the complaint states. “Passers-by had removed two occupants from the SUV and despite life-saving measures being performed, both occupants were pronounced dead on scene.”
Killed with the SUV drive Peter Foxvog Olson, 68, and Patricia Ann Olson, 49.
Officers on the scene observed brake marks on the roadway from the Ram in the wrong direction of travel. The complaint states that at 10:55 a.m., a complaint had been called in about the Ram driving northbound in the southbound lane.
When officers questioned Nechville, they could smell alcohol coming from him. He initially denied drinking alcohol the night before or that morning but said, “I’m hoping to tear into it tonight.”
Results of a blood draw to determine blood-alcohol content are pending. Interviewed at the hospital, he admitted to drinking alcohol from about midnight to 2:30 a.m. the night before alone at the house.
“He stated he did not feel the effects of the alcohol but looking back on the situation, he should not have drove,” the complaint states.
Nechville is currently in custody at the Dakota County Jail. Bail was sent in the amount of $500,000 without conditions ($300,000 with conditions) by Judge Dannia Edwards. Nechville's next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. in Hastings.
County Attorney Kathy Keena thanked the Dakota County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol for the investigation of this incident.
