An anonymous tip came in Monday regarding an alleged officer involved shooting that occurred in Hastings on Saturday, April 10th. According to the tip, Caleb Christopher Perry was supposedly being detained early Saturday morning behind Applebee’s in Hastings when he was allegedly shot by an officer. The Journal spoke to Police Chief Bryan Schafer regarding the incident.

“There was no officer involved shooting,” Schafer said. “We did assist Dakota County with the arrest, but no shots were fired.”

The allegations of the shooting were simply social media rumors gone wild. Some said he was shot five times, others said once, neither were even close to being true. A perfect example of why it is so important to rely on eyewitness accounts and official investigation information, not ‘I heard this from someone else that heard this.’ According to the Dakota County booking documents, Perry did flee but was caught. He was in custody under medical supervision for part of the weekend as a precautionary measure due to suspicions of excessive drug ingestion. Perry was booked on April 11th at 8:47 a.m. on one Probable Cause Charge: Financial Transaction Card Fraud-Use-No Consent – FE Statute Number: 609.821.2(1) and ticketed for Fleeing a Peace Officer By a Means Other Than a Motor Vehicle – MS Statute Number: 609.487.6. No court date is set as of press time.
