Folch resigns from council seat with plans to marry and move

It’s love over politics for Hastings City Councilmember Tina Folch.
She announced at the Hastings City Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 16 that she’s stepping down from her Ward 1 Hastings City Council seat and following her heart – to Wisconsin, even.
Folch is in the last year of her second term in office, and her seat will be on the fall ballot this year. The city will seek applicants for the position, and the council will vote to fill the seat for the remainder of Folch’s term. She said her last day on the council will be March 11.
Folch said she get engaged last year, and she and her fiancé haven’t been able to set a date to say their “I dos.”
“We have been putting off naming an actual date for our marriage, partially because of my obligations on the city council, and we just can’t hold off no more,” she joked. “We really want to get hitched. We’re looking at being married yet this spring and starting our home, which would require that I move to Hudson.”
She said her future husband has lots of “Wisconsinite toys” that require a lot of space.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have those kinds of homes here in the city limits of Hastings,” she said. “It’s my second term, and it really hurts not to be able to fulfill my obligation to the city, which I am very passionate about, but I’m also really passionate about starting my life together with my new husband.”
