We all know that Minnesota has three seasons. Fall, Winter and Road Construction and the City of Hastings needed to join the last of those three to keep streets safe and viable. 2024’s version of road construction for the city was pretty small compared to previous years. The one major project is happening on the west side of town along Brittany Road, Highland Drive and Brooke Lane between 15th Street and Northridge Drive.
According to the project kick off packet, the construction was slated to start as early as June 10th and completion is expected in October. As of the most recent update from the city on July 3, the following progress was noted:
Storm sewer and concrete curbing was completed for 21st Street, Brook Lane and Brooke Court.
For 17th Street West, road base material removal and hauling started. The temporary water main system was installed, tested and cleared for bacteria and will be connected to homes sometime during the week of July 8-12 due to weather conditions and the July Fourth holiday.
Pleasant Park saw the removal of the trail pavement and grading began.
Highland Drive had water main valves being worked on.
For this week, expect to see grading and surface reclamation to prep for repaving on 21st Street, Brooke Lane and Brooke Court.
17th Street will see homes getting connected to the temporary water mains and other utility improvements including sanitary sewer replacement.
Pleasant Park will have work continue on the trails.
Highland Drive should have the water main rehabilitations completed by the end of the week.
As part of the construction process, non-residents are encouraged to stay out of the area unless visiting residents in the work zone. Residents are asked to not remove any of the survey marking stakes or flags, and remember, no parking on the streets under construction from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone with questions or concerns can call the Hastings Engineering Department at 651-480-2334.
