Let’s All Outrun 2020

Hastings residents are familiar with the annual Gobble Gait race on Thanksgiving. Gobble Gait started in 1998 as a small race to raise money for Hastings Family Service. Over the course of 21 years, Gobble Gait has raised over one million dollars to support HFS, plus all the food donations that come in due to the race. This is due, in large part, to the generosity of over 150 community sponsors and thousands of racers throughout the race’s history. The funds raised are used by Hastings Family Service to aid families in need of basic necessities like food, transportation and clothing.

Here we are, 2020, the year that has been a year to remember as the one where everything changed. For many things, those changes have not been all that favorable. What does 2020 look like for Gobble Gait? Simple. It isn’t happening. At least in the form we are used too. From the Gobble Gait website. “Due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19, and keeping the safety of our participants, volunteers and supporters in mind, we will not be able to gather as usual on Thanksgiving Morning in Downtown Hastings.

While we are disheartened that we won’t all be together for the race, we are counting on you to keep the spirit of Gobble Gait going at home this year. It might look different, but you can still Get Your Gobble ON!”

The Gobble Gait website, www.gobblegait. com has added an Online Store button to the site as their main source of fundraising for 2020. All proceeds still go to Hastings Family Service. The site is also encouraging getting the orders in early to guarantee delivery in time to hold your own run / walk with in your own neighborhood. Visit www.gobblegait. com to learn more, buy some adorable shirts, hats and a facemask, or to donate.
