The awaited project for improvements at Lake Rebecca Park is underway.
The project includes parking lot removal and replacement, as well as paved trails, an accessiblel paddle launch, restoration of prairie, installation of the fishing pier.
At the May 19, Hastings City Council meeting, the go-ahead was given for budget authority to match remaining costs for the upgrade project. The project is being fully-funded up to $1 million by a grant from the state, and the city will be reimbursed for all project spending. The city Park’s Department made a request for $776,489 to be added to its capital fund for spending on the project.
The majority of the project will be finished this year.
