Jolaine (Jo) Deutsch/Polgar, age 92, died peacefully on Sept. 30, 2023, at Hastings Benedictine Senior Living.
Jolaine Janisch, daughter of Alfred & Emma Janisch was born on September 8, 1931 in Eden, South Dakota. Jolaine married Marcus Deutsch on February 5, 1951. They moved to Babbitt, Minnesota in 1956 where they raised 5 children.
Jolaine’s happiest memories were raising her family in Babbitt. Jo was well known in town for being the adult supervisor at the Babbitt Teen Center where all the teens knew her as the cool, calm Mom! Jolaine loved nature, took walks in the Northern Woods, enjoyed sunny days, sauna with her girlfriends, and working in her flower gardens.
Jolaine moved to Hastings in 1977. In her later years, she enjoyed many road trips in Minnesota, Wisconsin, & Arkansas.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Laverne, Lavonne, Marilyn, and Robert.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Deutsch, Avis Ries, Carey (Jerry) Brekken, Julie (Jack) Carroll, and Charles (Bonnie) Deutsch; granddaughters, Dreah, Carly, Kelly, Hailey, and Chloe; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane and Paula; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jolaine’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace Hospice who took such great care of Jolaine during her final days.
A celebration of Life will be held at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings, MN from 3- 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct.6, 2023. A private interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
