John L. Bauer, age 50, passed away on May 23, 2024, at UW Health University Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on January 17, 1974, in St. Paul, MN, and was adopted as an infant by Bernard and MaryLou (Geronime) Bauer. John was raised in Vermillion Township and had a love for the outdoors and wildlife.
John loved playing softball and golf and enjoyed fishing. He had a great appreciation for agriculture and was actively involved in 4-H. John was known as a skilled and hardworking farmer who especially enjoyed gardening peppers and cooking, with a special love for barbecue.
Those who knew John would remember him for his quick wit, humor, and good-natured spirit. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes with family and friends. His siblings fondly called him “baby John” or “little John” and friends called him “Taco.” John shared a special farming bond with his brother, Mike.
John is survived by his father, Bernard Bauer; siblings: David (Becky) Bauer, Mary Anne Westman, Paul Bauer, Mary Margaret Bauer, Chris Bauer, Peter Bauer, Clara Bauer, Michael (Amy) Bauer, Joseph Bauer, Bernadette Bauer, Maria (Troy) Wheeler, and Anna (Christopher) Bauer-Pennie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his good friend Toby Burr and favorite cousin Carol Schuhwerck , and numerous other friends who held a special place in his heart.
John was preceded in death by his mother, MaryLou, and his brother, Vincent Bauer.
The Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 106 Main St W, Vermillion, MN 55085. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St, Hastings, MN 55033, and one hour before the Mass at the church Saturday. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery after the Mass of Christian Burial.
