The following is a statement by Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom concerning the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision today in the Casillas case involving Minnesota’s “Revenge Porn” statute: “The nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images causes permanent and severe harms that can last a lifetime. Today’s decision from the Minnesota Supreme Court recognizes the seriousness of this crime and the State’s compelling interest in protecting its citizens from this reprehensible conduct. This decision is an extremely important victory for this crime’s many victims. I am thankful for the Minnesota Legislature’s enactment of this important law and grateful to the Minnesota Supreme Court for upholding its constitutionality today. “
