Our beautiful Mother and Nana Jacklyn “Jacky” Bridget Slocum passed away on the morning of Jan.13, 2023, following a short illness at the age of 69. Missing her each and every day is her daughter Brooke Forsberg, her son Max Slocum, her son-in-law TJ Forsberg, and her Mi Amor grandson Levi Frank Forsberg.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life Frank Slocum, her parents Jack and Betty Zimmerman, cousin Thom May, and her brother-in-laws Ronald Taylor and Jim Slocum.

Jacky was the oldest of six children, and missing their oldest sibling and her love and guidance are Padi Barajas (Larry) of Arizona, Rebecca Renstrom (Arnie) of Sequin, Jane Taylor of California, Kristin Zimmerna (Brent) of Seattle, and Jodi Ward (Shawn) of Idaho.

When Jacky married Frank she became the sister-in-law to Claire Lanigan of California, Susan Oftehage (Ron), of Inver Grove Heights, and Sherry Slocum of Medford WI, all of whom miss her dearly as do the many nieces and nephews she loved.

Jacky was born on Dec. 14, 1953 to Jack and Betty Zimmerman, she graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio on June 6th, 1971. At the age of 18, she traveled for a little while and later joined the Air Force where she met her husband Frank Slocum. Sometime after becoming husband and wife, the pair had their first child in May of 1985 in a daughter, Brooke. In June of 1991, a son was born in Max. From the 1990s to the time of their respective dates of passing, they were residents of the state of Minnesota.

Jacky worked a number of jobs over the years, from Daycare Worker, General Manager of the restaurants The Mississippi Belle and The Onion Grille, Hospice Agent, and prior to her passing in nutritional services at Allina Health nursing home in Hastings.

Jacky Slocum had a heart of gold, her love for those that she cared for knew no limit and she was always there for friends and family when she was needed. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and doing activities like shopping, cooking, jewelry making and other arts and crafts. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing games with her grandson Levi. She was a supporter of her children in their educational and professional pursuits, believing that her daughter Brooke and son Max could achieve their best despite all the obstacles that stared at them right int he eyes. She never sugar coated a thing, and was very realistic, when a food needed to be put down it was, and when a hug needed to be given it was as well. Life will not be the same without her physical presence here on this Earth, but her loved ones know that her spirit is still with them and so is her care and warmth.

Jacky and the love of her life Frank will be together forever in a niche at Fort Snelling on April 14th, 2023.

Jacky’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Starkson Funeral Home in Hastings starting at 10 a.m. with services following 11 a.m., All are welcome to come and honor a woman who was beautiful on the inside and out.
