HPD arrest two with help of observant citizens

On May 5th, officers responded to the 100 block of 24th Street W. on a report of two males looking into windows of houses and businesses. Residents further reported seeing one male run toward 23rd Street W. As officers arrived, other callers indicated the suspect ran into a nearby building.

Officers found Mitchell Jeffery Winter, age 28 of Hastings, and he was arrested for warrants. A search of his person revealed car keys for a vehicle reported stolen last week.

While looking for the 2nd suspect, Officers received information on his identity and possible location.

Officers monitoring the area then saw him attempting to flee on foot and gave chase.

The suspect, John William Moeller, age 29 of Hastings, was arrested on a number of warrants from Dakota Co., Washington Co., Department of Corrections, and Wisconsin. During the investigation a large amount of methamphetamine was discovered as well.

Both Winter and Moeller were booked into Dakota County Jail.
