Pep rallies are simply part of going to high school, especially for Homecoming. The students were excited to have this little bit of tradition back for 2021.

The pep rally began with the band playing the school song and went right into the programming of the day. First, student’s spoke about the various events that happened from earlier in the week. They gave final numbers on the Powder Puff Football game fundraiser which brought in 180 pounds of food and $860 for Hastings Family Service.

The winner of the door decorating contest was also revealed, Ms. Cardell’s class won the best door decoration for 2021. The Hastings Area Rotary Club’s Student of the Month was re-introduced to the school. The first selection for that was Tyler Bushinski. Keep an eye out for a few features on Bushinski, one in this edition and the Student of the Month in an upcoming edition.

Before the Homecoming Court was introduced officially, they played a game of musical chairs, Raider style. The gents were down on one knee and as the music stopped, the ladies needed to find a knee. The eliminated lady took her gent with her until they were down to one winner.

A few ladies figured it out fairly quickly, taking their time while close to a knee then accelerating quickly to the next knee, then repeat. The game was fun for all, the audience and the players, with many of the ladies laughing at their sudden dismissal. The ultimate winner was Meghan Oseko edging out Lauren Dubej as they fought over Dubej’s escort, Brady Zak’s knee.

After the “musical knees” event, the court was officially introduced, and the King and Queen were crowned. This year’s homecoming king was Max Savage and his queen, Katelyn Kray. Congratulations to you both!

After the crowning, the football team did a fun dance number and then students were dismissed.
