Changes in women’s fashions between 1900 and 1950 is the topic of a new exhibit at Hastings City Hall. Hemlines rose and undergarments changed allowing more comfort and freedom of movement. Clothing from that era has been brought out of the Pioneer Room archives and displayed to highlight those changes.

The exhibit opening and the Annual meeting of Hastings Area Historical Society will take place in Hastings City Hall on April 12 at 7:00 p.m. Following a brief business meeting, fashion expert and historian, Sally Anderson will explain how these changes in fashion reflected attitudes about women’s roles during that era.

Hastings Area Historical Society’s mission is to preserve, interpret and promote the distinctive history of the Hastings community. They sponsor programs and events, raise funds, volunteer, and collaborate with like-minded organizations in an attempt to preserve the historic fabric of our community for cur- rent and future generations.

Members of the Hastings Area Historical Society operate and maintain the files in the Pioneer Room in City Hall; do all the upkeep at Historic Oakwood Cemetery and volunteer at LeDuc Historic Estate.

Hastings City Hall is located at 101 E 4th Street and is open from 8 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Pioneer Room, located in City Hall, is open Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Hastings Area Historical Society meeting and exhibit opening on April 12th at 7:00 p.m. is free and open to the public.
