Hastings High School girls basketball alum Lilly Nuytten is a member of the Minnesota State Women’s Basketball team that won the NCAA Division 2 Championship Friday.
The Mavericks defeated Texas Woman’s University 89-73 to claim the Division II crown in the championship game in St. Joseph, MO. They defeated Cal State San Marco by a score of 70-68 on March 27 and started Elite Eight Play on March 25 by defeating Georgia Southwestern, 93-88.
Nuytten is a redshirt freshman on the Minnesota State University Squad and has worked herself into playing time in several games in post-season play.
Nuytten is a 6’0” forward and was a team captain and three-year letter winner at Hastings High School. In her junior year, she averaged 15.5 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. She was a two-time All-Metro East Conference selection and hit the 1,000-point milestone her senior year at Hastings.
She is the daughter of Josh and Lori Nuytten. She is majoring in Exercise Science and hopes to be a chiropractor.
The team was greeted back with a celebration in Mankato Monday.
