HEDRA plans closed door meeting to discuss buying building

Posted

The Hastings Economic Develop and Redevelopment Authority (HEDRA) has scheduled a closed door session for Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. to discuss purchase of one of the remaining properties it does not yet own in the 400 block of Vermillion Street.
The agenda for the meeting states the purpose as “Discuss Potential Purchase of Property at 400 Vermillion Street.”
That property, a former Wells Fargo Bank, is now owned by Electronic Dental Services.
HEDRA has listed a priority of redeveloping the block, which runs between 4th and 5th Streets. It owns all the properties between the two end properties, EDS and Spiral Pizza. It also plans to relocate businesses and tenants in the building to other sites in Hastings.
At the last HEDRA meeting, Community Development Director John Hinzman said he’d like the redevelopment to coincide with the rebuild of the Vermillion Street corridor planned for 2027.
The HEDRA strategic plan adopted at its last meeting lists as “high priority” redevelopment of that block, referred to as Block 28.
Hinzman said at that meeting, “We’ve taken action on that block. We want to continue to take action on that block. I have that as our highest priority.”
The regular monthly HEDRA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 13 at Hastings City Hall.
