A Hastings woman died after a high-speed chase early Monday, Nov. 18 that shut down I-494 rush hour traffic for three hours.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu driven at a high rate of speed by Elisa Rae Norton, 39, ran into the back of a semi on I-494 at 5th Street in South St. Paul shortly before 4:30 a.m. The semi driver, Corey Haug, 39, of Holmen, WI, was not injured.
According to reports, West St. Paul Police had initiated a traffic stop with Norton’s vehicle, which fled, and a police chase ensued eastbound on Hwy. 62. The vehicle then proceeded eastbound on I-494.
Drivers were rerouted off the freeway, which was cleared of debris before reopening at about 7:30 a.m.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident.
