Emma McLay and Eddie Peine are recipients of the ExCEL Award. ExCEL – Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership – is a unique program designed exclusively for high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community.

Emma is a member of the HHS choir and Show Choir, and has participated in fall plays and the spring musical. She maintains a 3.98 GPA and is active in Drama Club, Peer Helpers, Link Crew, and Spanish Honor Society and holds officer positions in three of those activities. She has volunteered with Peer Tutors, Gobble Gait, VBS, and is a youth sports coach.

Eddie is a multi-sport athlete in hockey and baseball. He maintains a 3.91 GPA, and is active in Link Crew. He has volunteered with Hastings Family Service and youth baseball projects in the community. He was nominated for his positive impact on others at HHS, regardless of their ability, background, or social status.

Triple “A” Award Megan Brown and Ben Witt are recipients of the Triple “A” Award. Triple “A” – academics, athletics, and arts – is a program designed to honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.

Megan has a 3.85 cumulative GPA and has been engaged in multiple athletics and arts activities throughout her HHS career. She is a participant in choir, where she has earned multiple superior ratings and has been named All-State. Megan is also a twosport athlete who was all-conference in soccer and golf. She plans to attend the University of St. Thomas and intends to study business and participate in choir and club soccer.

Ben has a 3.94 cumulative GPA and is enrolled in multiple Advanced Placement and College in the Schools classes. He is a one-year participant in band and four-year participant in choir, who has received multiple superior ratings and has been named All-State. Ben has also participated in football, swimming, and track and field. He is undecided on his post-secondary school choice, but plans to study exercise science and is interested in participating in football and choir.
