Hastings Rotary hosts annual hastings LIVE
On Saturday September 14, the Hastings Rotary Club will hold its annual Rivertown LIVE, an outdoor concert fundraiser this year headlined by Diamond Rio, also featuring Little Texas and Slamabama. Rivertown LIVE takes place in Levee Park rain or shine, with doors opening at 4 p.m. Food from food trucks and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the event.
According to Hastings Rotary President Craig Beissel, the creation of a concert was a way to hit two birds with one stone: “Having a concert was not only a way to have a community event, but also to raise money.”
The funds from Rivertown Live flow through the Rotary to the various causes supported by the nonprofit including Cycling Without Ages, a service of 6 Trishaws that pilot senior citizens around town, Hastings Rivertown Fishing, Hastings United Way, Hastings Family Service, and various high school sports.
The connection with high school athletes is more than simply financial backing, however. By Beissel’s estimate, some 125-150 student athletes volunteer setting up, running, and breaking down the event. “If it weren’t for Trent [Hanson] and these awesome students, we’d have a lot more work on our hands,” said Beissel. Despite the Hastings High School Athletic Department’s work, the event is still looking for volunteers. Various volunteer positions are still available and can be signed up for on the event’s website.
