A year into the pandemic has families scrambling for things to do outside of the home. With Easter approaching, the Hastings Rivertown Lions Club came up with a unique way to celebrate that encourages physical distancing while enjoying different spots around Hastings and being outdoors. Thankfully, for most participants, the rain held off until late morning, allowing them to participate and stay dry.
The Easter Bunny Basket Scavenger Hunt was held Saturday, March 27th. It started with families pre-registering with the Lions Club. The day of, families were given the morning to get their basket at Tilden Community Center along with the scavenger hunt list. During that time, some gave donations to the Lions Club as a thank you for their support of Hastings.
Parents then took off on a nine-stop scavenger hunt showcasing some wonderful spots around town, including the Hastings stone on the river front and Harmony Park just on the other side of the Rotary Pavilion from the Hastings stone. The park next to the train depot, Roadside park for the big red slide, the mural under the bridge, and of course Lions Park were just a few of the stop’s families made.

The Haltvik family was kind enough to let us follow them to one of the stops. The kids were so excited to find their first egg and pose quick for the paper. The parents were excited to have an outdoor event to participate in after a long time at home. Photo by Bruce Karnick
