A summons for charges of receiving stolen property was filed in Dakota County Court Jan. 6.
Ryan David Orres, 37, Hastings was charged with receiving stolen property (over $5,000), a felony.
According to the complaint, on April 12, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at property owned by Orres in Douglas Township after receiving information that there was stolen property there. Deputies were given photographs of items that were verified as stolen. On the property, deputies found three snowmobiles, three trailers, two tractors, a lawn mower, a stump grinder, a skid loader and a motor vehicle, all of which were confirmed stolen. The value of the stolen items was estimated to be over $160,000.
Orres told deputies he had purchased “a number of items from two individuals in Iowa” and “he knew these individuals were ‘fishy,’ ‘up to no good,’ and ‘drug addicts,’” the complaint states.
“Orres also admitted that based on the circumstances and his knowledge of these individuals, he kind of knew these items were stolen and that he was getting a good deal based on the value of the items and what he paid,” according to the complaint.
