Hastings Family Service seeks July boost for growing summer needs

Posted

Hastings Family Service is asking the community to help bridge help and hope for local neighbors during July, a month when summer needs often climb and donations can go even further.

Through July 31, every dollar donated to Hastings Family Service will receive a proportionate match through the Open Your Heart Summer Challenge. The bonus giving opportunity comes at an important time for the organization, as food assistance needs and support for unhoused neighbors increase during the summer months.

Hastings Family Service Executive Director Amy Sutton said the need in the community continues to grow.

“More neighbors than ever are having to choose between food on the table, gas for the car, or paying for rent and childcare -- the list goes on. Every dollar donated in July is deeply appreciated and makes a greater impact, ensuring local help is available,” Sutton said.

According to Hastings Family Service, the number of full food shelf orders provided by the organization has nearly tripled over the past five years. That growth has pushed the organization to keep looking for more ways to reach neighbors where they are.

HFS Programs Director Amy Tix said summer outreach has already been active this year.

“On top of this growth, HFS continues to search for ways to reach more neighbors in more places. The HFS team distributed 1,853 free bagged lunches for kids in June. The proportionate match grows the impact of community support and helps HFS keep up with growing needs,” Tix said.

Community members who want to support Hastings Family Service during the Open Your Heart Summer Challenge can make a gift through July 31. For more information, contact Hastings Family Service at 651-437-7134.
