Hastings Family Dental Care under new ownership

After 36 years of providing dental care in Hastings, Dr. Katherine Conway is retiring. Dr. Conway informed her patients of her pending retirement in a letter penned Oct. 5.

Dr. Conway said in her letter, “Thank you so very much for allowing me to service your dental needs over the years. I have been so blessed to be part of your health and wellness. I’m looking forward to having more time for hobbies and my grandbaby!”

The practice has been in Hastings in some form or another for several decades. Dr. Conway acquired it in 1994 when it was located at the corner of Pine St. and Highway 55 in the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building. Dr. Conway moved the practice just up the road to 955 Highway 55. The practice has been there for 29 of her 36 years in dentistry.

Hastings native Dr. Tyler Rohr has purchased the practice from Dr. Conway and took over seeing patients as of Nov. 13.

“This week was so busy, and it was amazing to be in Hastings serving the community that raised me,” said Dr. Rohr after his first week as the primary dentist at Hastings Family Dental Care.

Drs. Rohr and Conway were both adamant about keeping the same friendly, amazing staff that have been with the practice that Dr. Conway built, and Dr. Conway expressed her support for Dr. Rohr in her retirement letter.

“I’m a full-service dentist,” said Dr. Rohr. “You can do all of your dental procedures here at Hastings Family Dental Care. This is a great office, it has a great history, and it has been an important part of the community and I look forward to continuing that while expanding the services offered.”

Dr. Rohr and his team are looking for new patients along with maintaining the patients from Dr. Conway and they will be offering additional services, with a big one being emergency dental services, something Hastings has desperately needed for some time.

“One of the biggest things in my previous office was emergency dental care. During the week, if there's something going on, I can pretty much handle all aspects of emergency dental care. Along with that, I do a little bit more cosmetic dentistry with porcelain veneers and crowns, Invisalign clear aligners, surgical implant placement, crown restorations, root canal therapy and then supporting our sports teams with mouth guards and things like that,” added Dr. Rohr.

Speaking of sports teams, Dr. Rohr grew up a Raider and he is beyond excited to be in Hastings and in a position where he is able to support the local community, especially sports.

“It just makes my bond stronger with the community knowing that I'm going to be here and serve the people in the town that I grew up in. Finally, I get to help sponsor sports teams and events and be part of volunteer opportunities. That's a big thing for me and our families. That’s one of the other big things, one of the big reasons I wanted to come back here to support everything that the community is about,” he said.

Dr. Rohr was a partner in a dentist’s office in Woodbury prior to purchasing the office in Hastings. He graduated from the College of St. Scholastica and then the U of M School of Dentistry along with several advanced educational courses throughout his dental career.

Changing a business from one owner to another is a big process. In the short time waiting for the interview, there were a number of vendors visiting the office to help answer any questions Dr. Rohr may have regarding their services and the switching of the accounts over to him. There are bound to be some hiccups along the way, but the one thing that is clear is Dr. Rohr and his staff are excited to serve the Hastings community and they are doing so with kindness and a smile. We’d like to wish Dr. Conway all the best in retirement, thank you for your years of service to Hastings residents, and welcome officially to Hastings as a business owner to Dr. Rohr!
