Readers have been submitting questions looking for status updates of projects around town. Where are things at for the new construction of the apartments, KFC and others? These are questions we sent to the City of Hastings’ John Hinzman, Community Development Director.

Here are quick status updates for various projects and proposals from around town:

KFC:

There has been a site plan submitted for a KFC to be built on the former Freedom gas station lot at the northwest corner of Vermillion St. and 18th St. The official address is 1726 Vermillion St. According to Hinzman, the building permit review has been completed at the city level and they are now waiting on the state review to be complete. There is no known timeline for construction to begin as of this story.

Therapy Ops:

Therapy Ops is one of the newest construction locations to start in Hastings. Located in the vacant lot in front of AutoZone at 1316 S. Frontage Road, Therapy Ops is under construction. The location will provide speech, occupational and physical therapy to families. They anticipate a summer of 2023 opening.

Lake Isabel Flats:

Lake Isabel Flats is located downtown at the corner of 4th St. E and Bailey St. between 3rd and 4th Streets. This apartment complex is moving right along with the construction. They expect to be completed by the fall of 2023.

Current 33:

Current 33 is constructing the first building of the complex on 33rd Steet between Terry’s Hardware and Vermillion State Bank. Lease applications are expected to begin in June and the opening is anticipated for fall.
