The Hastings wrestling team competed in The Clash XXI Wrestling Duals at the LaCrosse Center on Friday and Saturday.
The Clash is one of the premiere dual events, featuring 32 boys teams from around the nation.
In two days of wrestling, Hastings took fifth place in the qualifying round Friday. The Raiders lost their first match to Hershey, IL, 37-22. They went on to defeat Northfield 42-28 and Apple Valley 34-37 to take fifth place in the field of eight.
On Saturday, Hastings finished fourth in their bracket, defeating Washington 36-33 and falling to Marion Central Catholic 37-34 and Xavier 44-23.
An added bonus to the event was longtime Hastings High School wrestling coach Paul Vaith’s induction into The Clash Hall of Fame. Vaith coached for 46 years starting in 1979, 19 as head coach where he amassed a 412-99 record in Hastings and won two state championships.
