I wanted to leave a note here, in my final edition of the Hastings Journal, thanking all the wonderful people I have had the great privilege to meet and pester and write about over the past nearly two years.
I never expected to be writing for my hometown paper, and what I discovered under my nose here has amazed me.
I remember growing up in Hastings thinking it was so desperately boring.
But after beginning to write for this paper, I quickly realized how callously unaware I had been of the people I had called my neighbors.
I never knew about determined folk who work tirelessly to make this place a better one, be it working to push back against declining enrollment, keeping winter snows off of streets, or making sure people can pay their heating bills and put food on the table.
And being able to share their stories has truly been a joy.
So thank you Hastings.
Moving forward, Bruce will be taking up the community calendar, so events, tips, and notes on coverage can be sent to Bruce@hastingsjournal.news.
