Head Coach Scott Meier is thankful to be playing soccer right now amidst the current environment. He is looking to build on the success achieved last season and hopes to make a strong push towards a conference championship. Hastings graduated 22 seniors last year within their Varsity and JV teams which makes that a much more complicated task. The upside for Coach Meier? He has 7 players returning from last year’s team and will be looking for our new players to take on a role and be impactful players for us. New to the squad are: Ella Kelly, Ashlyn Endres, Maddy Daley, Taylor Pelava, Emma Langenfeld, Lauren Hubbart, Maddie Moore, Kate Hiller and Abbi Pelava. When asked for a summary of what he is wanting from this season, he replied. “We are looking for our captains to lead the way this season. Our theme is “Feed Your FIRE” and FIRE means Focus, Intensity, Resiliency and Effort. Bella Meier and Megan Brown will be looked to control the middle, Mollie Begin to lead our forwards, Delaney Kullman and Sammie Molitor to anchor our defense and Kaitlin Petrich to have another strong season as goalkeeper. Dae Morrison will be bring the heart and grit to the squad as a midfielder. We have an influx of juniors new to our team this year with really good skill sets, and a 9th grader, Abbi Pelava. Within our squad, we have some speed, quality technical skills, attack mentality and a good work ethic. The challenge will be in a shortened season to establish our ability to play for each other and to play with each other. Our focus will be on playing purposeful soccer with good decisions and increase our pace of play. I am looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish this season.”
