The game was supposed to take place in Rosemount on Tuesday, but the heavy, wet snow forced the game inside the Rosemount dome on Wednesday. The dome may provide a dry surface and a relatively warm air temperature to being outside, but the lighting inside is far from adequate.
“It also had a narrow feeling versus the stadium feel,” Head Coach Scott Meier said after the game.
Hastings would get down 2-0 midway through the first half when they would get back in it with a real nice shot from Bella Meier off a pass from Dae Morrison. “The momentum we got from that was short lived, Rosemount scored fairly quick in response to make it 3-1,” Meier Added.
Rosemount has speed throughout their lineup and Hastings did not handle the speed and defend well enough on several of the goals they scored. Rosemount added another goal before halftime to make it 4-1. Out of half, Rosemount had a quick play into the box with a close range shot that deflected through the hands of Kaitlin Petrich into the goal for 5-1. The last goal for Rosemount came from a loose ball in the box after initially in the hands of Kaitlin Petrich, and it was directed in by Rosemount to go 6-1. “We had several really good chances down the stretch, with Bella Meier and Megan Brown having some shots, but unable to get them inside the frame,” Meier said.
The game would finish 6-1 Rosemount. After the final game of the season is never an easy time for an athlete. The girls were obviously upset at the loss and saddened that their seniors are now officially done with their high school soccer career. Luckily, they can look back and know they had a good season that ended at 6-4-2. Not only was that a good season, it was a season that they could have had completely cancelled, which the girls are very happy did not happen. “We lost to a pretty good Rosemount team,” Meier finished with.
A big highlight for the Raiders is having three players make the All-Academic team. All-Academic is awarded to a school’s student athletes who have demonstrated high academic performance over their high school career or have a 4.0 GPA. This award is typically for seniors or juniors each year. Congratulations to Dae Morrison, Bella Meier and Kate Hiller.
A huge thank you needs to go out to Coach Scott Meier for his help this season with post game interviews and emails, and Tricia Pelava for her contributions of photos. Thank you both for everything!
