Garage fire injures one

Friday, March 31, Hastings Fire Department responded to a call at 1122 Walnut Street. The resident was working in the detached garage when the fire started. Fuel vapors are believed to be the source of the fire that ignited in the northeast corner of the garage. The male occupant was able to exit the garage.

The home, owned by Logan and Nicole Loesch, was spared from any damage as the fire department was able to respond quickly. Prescott Fire did provide assistance to help knock the fire down. Crews additionally overhauled the garage to ensure there was no chance of any flare ups, which resulted in the removal of insulation and other debris to the driveway which was promptly cleaned up.

Assistant Fire Chief Chris Paulson explained that it was a smaller fire and that the detached garage will need to be repaired but it is salvageable. The car pictured in the driveway is a drag racing car and it appeared to be undamaged other than a smoke and soot coating. The garage was secured quickly by friends and family.

Witnesses on site did say that Loesch was taken to a nearby hospital for burn treatment, but the official status of the injuries is unknown. He is communicating with friends and in the process of sorting out what the next steps are.
