On November 12th, the Miesville Fire Department received their grain bin rescue tube and put it into service. Jeff Sanderfield with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety provided an extensive training session on how to use the device for successfully completing a grain bin rescue. “We want to send a huge thank you to the following for nominating us for the Nationwide Insurance Grain Bin Safety Program Grant. Your support and kind words went a long way in our department being selected. Thank you: Nate Fox, Dina Gallinger, Elaine Manovich, Chris Odman, Lori Peine, Pam Peine, Dan Richmond, Jessica Schaffer, Carol Stoffel, and Jason Youngquist,” according to the Miesville Fire Department Facebook Page.

Nationwide Insurance ran a nomination program from January 1st to April 30th of 2020 where they received more than 2,000 nominations and awarded tubes and training to over 100 fire departments across more than 25 states. Grain bin safety is a huge part of farming in this area and now Miesville will be able to serve the area if the unthinkable happens, a big benefit to farmers in the area.
