Shane Lanning’s Farmers Insurance Agency, located at 1350 S. Frontage Road in Hastings, has been in business serving Hastings and the surrounding communities for 60 years. Lanning is the third owner of the family-owned agency that started back in 1962 by Dale Pearson.

To commemorate the milestone achievement, Lanning commissioned a portrait of the three owners from the start of the agency.

“Cindy Hoffman of Mac McGoon Studios did a great job presenting past and present and I am glad to honor my mentor Gordy and his mentor Dale all in one photograph,” said Lanning.

Dale Pearson was the founder of the agency, and his son Gordy became an agent back in 1977. When Dale retired in 1997, Gordy assumed the top role in the agency until his retirement in 2015. Lanning had 11 years to learn under Gordy, starting as an insurance agent in 2004. Lanning is Gordy’s son-in-law.

If you recognize the name Shane Lanning, but not from insurance, it is likely because Lanning is active in the community, most notably as an assistant boys’ soccer coach for the Raiders varsity soccer team.
