City Administrator Dan Wietecha introduced employees who have hit employment milestones and talked about how their efforts help the city. Missing from the in-person ceremony were firefighters who had been called to a home fire in Vermillion.

“Her selfless volunteerism to the City of Hastings is truly appreciated,” said Wilske.
Also honored were outgoing commissioners from the Hastings Arts & Culture Commission: Joe Becker, Kirk Skeba and Deidre McGinn.
Wietecha noted that Becker is a member of the River Valley Band and brought a musical perspective to the commission. Skeba worked to inventory artwork at city hall and other public locations and worked to bring in grant funding to the commission. McGann, a Hastings High School senior, was the youth member of the commission.
“The Arts & Culture Commission is a brand new commission for the city this past year. It hasn’t even hit its one-year anniversary yet.
