1924-2024

Doris (Johnson) Biel, 100, of Kasson, MN, passed away peacefully the morning of Oct. 25, 2024, after a long life well-lived. Doris was born on Aug. 10, 1924, to parents Gust Johnson and Lois (Bly) Johnson of Hunter, North Dakota.

Blessed with a farmer’s work ethic and generous heart, Doris spent decades of her life working and volunteering with small children and the elderly, and was an active member at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in her previous residence of Hastings. Doris was a voracious reader, fan of the Minnesota Twins, and a talented and generous baker. Anyone lucky enough to get to know Doris was going to be fed well, looked after, and entertained.

She loved to tell funny stories, including ones where she was the subject; her ability to laugh, and laugh at herself, doubtlessly contributed to her incredible longevity. She made friends wherever she went, had an incredible memory for birthdays, was there for anyone in a tight spot, and will be remembered always as a loving and supportive parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.

Preceded in death by her husband Norman, daughter Karen, and siblings Vivian, Shirley, Moritz, Elin, Bobby, and Kenny. Doris is survived by her brothers Garry (Diane) and Doug (Joanie), daughter Connie, granddaughters Kris and Kerensa, grandsons Keith, Jeffrey, and J. Ryan (Brooke), and great-grandchildren Auden and Lainey.

A small private burial service will be held in Litchfield, Minnesota, in November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends and family contribute to a fund for Doris’s Celebration of Life gathering, to be held at a time to be announced next year. Please contact Connie Simonson at 3955 Superior Dr. NW, Apt. 1023, Rochester MN 55901, to help contribute, and for further information and updates.
