Dakota County residents can receive a special curbside mattress pickup price from Memorial Day through Oct. 1 to recycle or reuse any type of unwanted mattress or box spring.
The fee is $60 for the first item and $40 for each additional item, with no limit on quantity. Sets are not required. For more information and to schedule a curbside pick-up, call 952-894-1448 or go to the Certified Recycling website at certifiedrecycling.org and click on Events.
Instead of sending the mattresses and box springs to a landfill, Certified Recycling disassembles them to recycle the metal, wood and cloth into new products. Quality gently used mattresses and box springs will be separated and donated to Bridging, a nonprofit that provides quality furniture for people in need.
Mattress disposal is the most popular search in the county’s online Recycling Guide directory. Since 2020, Certified Recycling has picked up 3,078 mattresses and box springs using the Dakota County pickup discount. The program has kept about 154,000 pounds of material out of the landfill.
