This story took some time to come to fruition for one Dakota County Deputy. On December 30, 2019, deputies were dispatched to an address in Marshan Township on a report of a vehicle running inside of a closed garage. When Deputy Mike Fendrick arrived, he could hear a vehicle running in the garage. Deputy Fendrick quickly assisted Hastings Fire personnel with forcing the door open.

Once inside the garage, Deputy Fendrick helped remove a male victim from the garage so others could begin lifesaving efforts. He again entered the garage and located another victim inside of the vehicle where he helped extricate that victim. Once safely outside, Deputy Fendrick helped with lifesaving efforts. Without the fast action and bravery of Deputy Fendrick, both victims likely would not have survived.

For his extraordinary efforts, Deputy Fendrick was recognized on December 11, 2021, with the Lifesaving Award.
