Private well owners in Dakota County can receive free nitrate testing during one of four drop-in events in August. Participants will receive results on the same day. If necessary, experts will provide treatment recommendations.
Eastern and southern Dakota County have a history of high nitrate in the groundwater. Nitrate is also present in streams leading to the Vermillion and Cannon rivers, which feed into the Mississippi River.
Dakota County Environmental Resources, Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District and Minnesota Agricultural Water Resource Center are sponsoring the free test events.
To test your well for nitrate, bring a water sample in a clean container.

• Thursday, Aug. 15, noon–4 p.m.
Dakota County Extension Office, 4100 220th St. W., Farmington
