Confluence Hotel in Hastings shines

HASTINGS, MN — The Confluence Hotel, a boutique destination nestled in downtown Hastings, continues to make waves as a hub for hospitality, community engagement, and corporate events. Speaking to local business owners and community members during the weekly Hastings Area Rotary meeting, Terrie Spano, a seasoned hospitality professional and Director at the Confluence Hotel, shared insights into the hotel’s journey, accomplishments, and plans for the future.
A Year of Growth and Success
Spano began her remarks by expressing gratitude for the warm embrace of the Hastings community, noting how the Confluence has become a cornerstone of the town’s charm. “Everyone has been gracious and wonderful,” Spano said. “We love being part of this vibrant community.”
Despite challenges, including the untimely passing of their General Manager last October, the Confluence achieved remarkable milestones in 2024. Highlights included:
• Over 100 events were hosted, including two full hotel buyouts and four international group visits.
• 100 room blocks for local golf courses and other venues lacking lodging.
• Exceptional customer reviews, averaging 4.8 out of 5 across platforms like TripAdvisor and Google.
• A AAA Three Diamond rating, with plans underway to achieve Four Diamond status.
• Exceeding food and beverage budgets for both the restaurant and banquets.
“We’ve solidified our position as a unique, full-service destination,” Spano said, citing their strategic location along the river and their focus on both corporate and social markets.
Meeting Post-Pandemic Trends
The Confluence has capitalized on post-COVID travel trends, which emphasize emotional, experiential, and nature-driven experiences. “People are seeking quiet escapes, team-building, and meaningful connections,” Spano explained. The hotel’s proximity to the river, trails, and green spaces has made it a prime choice for eco-tourism, retreats, and family gatherings.
Spano also highlighted the shift in group dynamics. “Pre-COVID, events were more transactional. Now, it’s about blending productivity with pleasure,” she said. This shift has allowed the Confluence to host multi-generational trips, team-building events, and experiential activities, all tailored to a market eager for connection and engagement.
Marketing and Future Plans
With a strong foundation, the Confluence is expanding its marketing efforts for 2025. This includes targeted campaigns on platforms like Google and Expedia, participation in industry sites such as Cvent, and local collaborations with Minnesota Bride and Minnesota Monthly. Additionally, the hotel plans to invest in billboards and influencer partnerships to amplify its reach.
“We’re positioning ourselves as a retreat destination for corporate and social groups,” Spano noted. The hotel’s waterfront location, boutique charm, and full-service offerings have drawn comparisons to destination resorts, providing a sense of escape without extended travel.
Community-Centric Initiatives
Spano emphasized the importance of integrating the hotel’s success with the community. “Our owners envision the Confluence as a gathering spot,” she said, detailing plans for more robust special events in 2025. These include live music, themed parties, yoga sessions, and even a proposed summer series, “Three Stages on the River,” featuring performances across multiple stages.
Holiday offerings will expand, with plans for a “Jingle Bar” and exclusive seasonal activities in heated outdoor spaces. The hotel is also exploring partnerships for scavenger hunts, walking tours, and other interactive experiences that encourage visitors to explore Hastings.
A Vision for Collaboration
Looking ahead, the Confluence aims to strengthen ties with regional partners in Woodbury, Stillwater, and Hudson, creating a collaborative loop to attract sports groups and city events. “We see the Southeast Metro as a unified destination,” Spano said.
With its strategic vision, commitment to sustainability, and focus on experiential travel, the Confluence Hotel is poised to enhance Hastings’ reputation as a premier destination. Spano concluded, “This is an exciting time for us and for Hastings. Together, we can create unforgettable experiences that keep people coming back.”
The Confluence Hotel has positioned itself as more than just a lodging option—it’s a cornerstone of Hastings’ revitalized hospitality and cultural scene, drawing guests from near and far to experience the town’s unique charm.
