Staff report
Several community organizations were represented Monday night at an introductory meeting on the Hastings Community Investment Fund.
The Hastings City Council approved inclusion of the fund in the 2022 city budget. The idea of the fund is “to encourage and support community-driven projects,” according to the city.
The application deadline for the first review of applications is March 31. After that date, applications will still be accepted and reviewed on a first-come basis. The fund has no maximum grant award. Matching dollars are not required “but will help demonstrate community support, as well as help the CIF funds go further to partner with multiple projects,” according to the city.
Projects need to take place on property owned by the city, such as parks.
Listed project examples include:
• Streetscape beautification and walkability.
• Enhancements to parks or athletic facilities.
• Trails and non-motorized infrastructure.
• Public art.
• Improved access to public amenities.
• Tourism amenities.
• Historic preservation or commemoration.
