Swarms of Mayflies hatched in Hastings over the weekend. Here, they’re attracted to a downtown light pole. The harmless flies can be found in almost all freshwater systems and are reportedly a sign that the water is healthy. The Minnesota Department of Resources says the Mayflies hatch together in large numbers. The City of Hastings kept bridge lights off, as the bugs are attracted to light, and cleanup crews the next day got rid of the flies. Photo submitted.
