Coffee with a Cop started out as a national movement to give residents the opportunity to hang out with their local officers, chat and get to know each other and see that the people behind the badge are not all that different from the communities they serve. This helps foster positive relationships between the officers and members of the community. Nationally, that day is the first Wednesday in October, which is October 4th, 2023. However, the Hastings Police Department had such a good response when the event was held last year, they did not want to limit it to one day a year.

Hastings Police partnered with Froth and Cork to hold a second Coffee with a Cop Day on Tuesday, March 21. There were no agendas and no speeches, it was simply an opportunity to have conversations, express concerns, ask questions and get to know the officers of the Hastings Police Department in a relaxed environment.

Many residents took advantage of the opportunity during the morning of the event. The second floor of Froth and Cork was packed with residents both on their own and as part of the event. Residents that engaged with the officers seemed to be enjoying the opportunity, and the kids who came with certainly did have a good time, leaving with stickers and bracelets.

With the National Coffee with a Cop day being the first Wednesday in October, there is plenty of time for Hastings to host another one on their own, but nothing is currently on the books. Add Oct. 4 to your morning calendar and plan to get to know the officers of Hastings Police Department in a fun, relaxed environment.
