Families, neighbors, and even four-legged friends have plenty to circle on the fall calendar this year, as Hastings Parks and Recreation rolls out two community favorites filled with games, costumes, and a good dose of friendly fun.

First up is Paws in the Park, set for Thursday, September 25 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by Fluegel’s, the evening will bring together more than 20 dog-friendly booths with games, giveaways, and a food truck to keep tails wagging. The highlight for many is the dog costume contest, where creativity often outpaces practicality. Past years have seen everything from superheroes on leashes to pups dressed as hot dogs, and the crowd never seems to tire of cheering them on. With treats and prizes in the mix, both pets and owners have plenty of reasons to join.

Just a few weeks later, on Friday, October 24, the spotlight turns to kids, teens, and families for the Hastings Community Halloween Party at Hastings High School. Running from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the party promises DJ music, games, and giveaways alongside more than 30 activity stations. Candy and prizes will be on hand at nearly every turn, making the gym feel more like a carnival than a classroom.

The ever-popular costume contest will return with categories for individuals, pairs, and groups. Winners will walk away with gift cards, while everyone who shows up in costume can count on a few laughs and plenty of photos. Admission is simple: a donation of food to Hastings Family Service or a contribution to the Youth Impact Council Scholarship Fund.

Together, the two events mark the season with plenty of color and energy. Paws in the Park brings neighbors together around their pets, while the Halloween party keeps the fun rolling with music and candy for the whole community. Whether on two legs or four, Hastings residents have plenty of reasons to get out, dress up, and celebrate.
