Chocolate Says It All

There was a change in the everyday routine of life for me a bit ago. The story actually begins a long time ago with facial pain that has been around for a very long time and we will let it go at that. Along comes the time for TOOTH #14 to be removed to see if that would be an answer. I started some very serious thinking about the Tooth Fairy and realized that s/he/it never had my name on pencil/paper, Rolodex, or Contact lists and that meant no deliveries were ever sent to me.

Going back to very much younger pencil/paper days, I grew up on a farm in rural central Minnesota and I was told that the Tooth Fairy did only city drop offs. Also my November Birthday made it too cold for Birthday Parties so the Tooth Fairy could not get together with anyone to make deliveries at those times.

I decided that it was finally time for payback from the Tooth Fairy in honor of the removal of Tooth #14. I had heard throughout the years that the Fairy was getting more and more generous with things left under the pillow in exchange for teeth. I dreamed what would I want as a one time kind of over due payment, I came up with the desire for some chocolate magazines. I did some research and came up with a delightful, very chocolaty magazine, “Chocolatier” that had been in print from early 1980s to 2007 or so. The answer to almost everything besides Amazon is eBay and I came across a mother load of them available in the secondary market but with average prices of about 10 dollars per copy. I shopped and watched and repeated this a few times until I found an offer for a collection of 33 magazines that I bid on for almost 2 weeks and then at the very last second someone outbid me! BUMMER! After a few hours of major upset I did a re-look at the eBay site and found that new offers came up. I thought s/ he/it probably would have said one magazine would be the limit, but I said to factor in the years plus interest. Now, I am looking at a “buy now” collection of 44 magazines for a huge amount less money than the 33 magazine set went for. There was also “make an offer” collection of 22 magazines and a bidding for the first 8 magazines ever printed. The number one usually goes for about 30 dollars or so. I told the Tooth Fairy now is payback time and within a day’s time 85 “Chocolatier” magazines were in the mail for me. The collection with the first edition one came in extremely low so I saved the Tooth Fairy a ton of money. I need the Tooth Fairy’s current address so I can send s/he/it the bill.

Another event of great interest to me and Husband Larry is that we had our 50th wedding anniversary on August 25. We did not want the big party kind of thing and Covid 19 had a say in that anyway. Daughter Nissa worked with Margaret and Terry Flower to have a very small celebration for us at their beautiful home in Nininger. Nissa was the virtual hostess and we had a Zoom get together before 10 of us sat down to a wonderful catered prime rib dinner complete with champagne and chocolate chocolate chip Bundt cake. And yes, I did find our wedding pictures which were in color in 1970. Color wedding pictures were extremely new at time and somehow even little rural Harding, MN knew of them. (The photographer was from Little Falls so that might explain a few things).

Husband Larry and I are hard to buy for and I did not even think to have “No gifts” put on the party invitation. It probably would not have worked anyway. My sisters came up with a very current water feature and then shopped for 70s things and hit the jackpot on those items. Evenings will be spent enjoying Tony and Rose’s wine and Margaret stitched an amazing 50th wedding sampler. The truck was almost full so a number of other goodies did not get mentioned. A deep THANK YOU to all. Also to the Tooth Fairy…I will make you a great chocolate treat!
