Charles G. “Chuck” Curtis, age 84, went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2024, at United Hospital in St. Paul after a long battle with chronic infections. Chuck was a long-time resident of Hastings until entering assisted living in Oakdale in 2019. He was blessed to spend his final afternoon sharing memories and laughs with his grandkids whom he loved dearly.

Chuck was born to Charles N. and Esther (Graham) Curtis on August 9, 1939, in Chicago. In 1957, he proudly graduated 12th in his class from Huntley High School in Huntley, MN (he was then quick to tell people there were only 13 in his class)! After high school, his family moved to Hastings where his dad was called to become Pastor of the First Baptist Church. It was there that Chuck met a pretty young lady named Maye Almquist. They were married on September 5, 1959 and would spend the next 64 years together. Soon after being married, Chuck was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served two years of active duty and four years of Reserves. After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Chuck and Maye moved back to Hastings where Chuck began a long career as an over the road truck driver hauling food products to the iron range communities of Minnesota. He loved what he did and made many friends in each of the communities he served.

Chuck enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his years including fishing, hunting, and golf. In his later years as he lost his mobility it was his 7 grandkids and 4 great grandchildren that became his passion. These blessed kids have great memories at Grandpa’s house with golf cart rides and their favorite treats. Another of Chuck’s great passions in his life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He set a good example for those around him to use their time, talents and treasure to spread the Gospel of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Leeds, brothers, Fred Curtis and Richard Curtis, and niece LuDawn Curtis.

Chuck is survived by his wife Maye; children, Pam Curtis, Tammy (Victor) Acosta, and Paul (Kari) Curtis; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Pastor Jim Bzoskie officiating. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.
