It is officially road construction season in Hastings. Construction on Highway 316 began Friday, April 16. From the look of things, all that was completed on Friday was the placement of signs and cones. According to the project website, the first section that will see work is between Malcolm Avenue and Tuttle Drive. The second section to see work should be continuing out of town from Tuttle Drive to Michael Avenue.

What does that mean for traffic trying to get to Red Wing? The official detour is 10th Street/Ravenna Trail to Glendale Road/Nicolai Avenue to 316. Thankfully, that detour is only about half a mile further than driving through town.

For local traffic trying to get to the businesses between 316 and 61, the answer is simple, take 61 instead.

From Page 1 For the folks trying to get home and to the businesses on the east side of 316, it is going to be a little trickier. The key access point from highway 61 is going to be 21st Street East by O’Reilly Auto to Commerce Drive. That will bring you to the industrial park where you can wiggle your way around to the various businesses and homes on that side of town.

The $5.9 million dollar project is scheduled to be completed by the Fall of 2021.
