The Hastings boys basketball team dominated the Red Wing Tip Off Classic over the weekend.

High-flying Hastings dominated at the event, taking down Blake 89-60 Friday night and returning Saturday to decimate host Red Wing 92-64.

University of Northwestern-St. Paul commit Owen Bernatz was virtually unstoppable against Blake, scoring 32 of his 36 points in the first half. He also had five rebounds, five assists and five steals while shooting 67 percent from the floor and 58 percent from behind the three-point line. Bernatz drilled seven three-pointers in putting on an offensive demonstration.

Bernatz was first-team all East Metro Conference last year and was voted the team MVP.

Kyan Esterby hit three shots from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points. Matthew Foss and Kellen Nuytten were also in double digits with 10 points each.

Also contributing to the Raider attack were Wearon Schult with seven points, Payton Lee-Dean with four, Carter Lundstrom with three and Derek Relliford, Marlowe Strain and Lukas Foss with two each.

Against Red Wing, Nuytten led Hastings scorers with 21 points as the raiders jumped out to a 53-37 halftime lead. Bernatz had 17, Lee-Dean and Esterby had 12 and Matthew Foss added 10 in the balanced attack.

Schult finished with eight points, Lukas Foss with six and Strain, Lundstrom and Landon Miska had two apiece.

After a Dec. 5 home game against Northfield, the Raiders take to the road to play New Prague Dec. 7 and Coon Rapids Dec. 12. Tip for both contests is 7 p.m.
