Behind 20-point performances from Kyan Esterby and Owen Bernatz, the Hastings boys basketball team pulled away in the second half to defeat Northfield at home Tuesday, 75-62.

Hastings won the battle of the Raiders by outscoring Northfield 42-32 in the second stanza. Lukas Foss added 14 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor, and he added six rebounds and two assists. Matt Foss scored eight points, including two from behind the three-point arc to go along with six assists, five steals and his game high nine rebounds. Weston Schult scored seven points but was a big catalyst behind the Raider offense with nine assists.

Payton Dean added four points, and Kellen Nuyten scored two.

Esterby and Berntatz also each grabbed six rebounds and had three and four assists, respectively.

Hastings connected on 32-69 field goals, including 9-25 from behind the three-point arc. The Raiders had a tough night at the charity stripe, hitting just two of their eight attempts.

The Raiders perfect record was blemished, however, on Thursday when they fell 85-75 in a high-scoring game at New Prague.

Bernatz paced the Raider effort with 22 points, followed by Matthew Foss with 14, Lukas Foss, Payton Dean and Schult with eight each, Esterby with six, Nuyten with five and Marlowe Strain with four.

Thursday, Dec. 14 is parents’ night for the Raiders with a home game against Cottage Grove Park. Hastings then has a week off before traveling to Woodbury Dec. 21. Game tip-offs are 7 p.m.
