Last week Thursday, January 21st, the Raiders Alpine ski team had their first race of the year against Mahtomedi at Afton Alps. The boys team struggled with consistency and lost
347-331. Jackson Reents (9) finished in first place with a time of 1:00.94, Cole Caturia (9) was third with 1:06.93 and Zach Rother (10) rounded out the top ten with 1:17.97. The rest of the boy’s squad skied well on one of their runs but made some mistakes on the others. The exciting piece was the new varsity skiers. Gavin Molitor (8), Finn Caturia (8), James Millhollin
(9), Charlie Vier (9), and Jacob Schield (10) all participated in their first varsity race.
The boys will face Mahtomedi and St Thomas on Tuesday at Welch and will race Rochester on Thursday.
The Girls skied well, but also were beaten by a strong Mahtomedi team. Abbigail Pelava
(9) was the top Raider finishing second with 1:07.99, she was followed by Mallory Karnick
(10) in fifth with 1:12.71, and Taylor Pelava (11) in sixth with 1:13.45. It was also the first Varsity race for Morgan Bolland (8), Addison Niebur (8), and Claire Caturia (7). The girls will face Mahtomedi and Visitation on Tuesday at Welch. They will face Rochester on Thursday.
